I am Teacher Jenny from the Kindergarten Department of Jining Confucius International School, Jining Shandong, China. I am 31 years old, a wife, a mother and a dedicated Teacher. I started imparting knowledge and teaching English to different nationals, Koreans, Japanese and Chinese in 2005. When I was a student I told myself to help my father with my college fees and so I looked for some part time jobs.
While taking my degree I was at the same time working as an ESL teacher at Baguio English Communications Institute. At first it was just a source of income for me but I eventually learned that I was actually gaining so much working and learning experiences. And not to mention I found a group of true friends that stayed by my side no matter what. In order for me to be an effective educator, I attended different English as a second language trainings provided by my Language School and private companies. I graduated from University in 2006 and decided to continue my career as an English teacher instead of working in my field of degree.
In 2009, I went to Tianjin, China and taught middle and high school students in No.4 middle and high school of Tianjin. It was my first time to be away from my family and so I had a hard time coping with the loneliness and the different weather. After one year, I decided to go back to my country, continued teaching through online but it was not fun anymore. So I chose to look for a different job. I worked as a Medical and Sales representative from 2010 to 2012. It was good that I was working in my field but I longed for something I have been doing and so I decided to go back to school and study again. I took up education and majored in Early Childhood and Adolescent Education.
Here I learned that it is very important to understand and help promote physical development and build the best and early foundation of children while learning and having fun. Part of my teaching units is to do a practicum as a practice teacher in public schools- kindergarten and preparatory departments. I was challenged to deal with the different kinds of attitudes the kids showed me. I have given demos and substitute classes to the different levels of kindergarten students and I would say it was the start of my growing teaching career. I maximized my time and did my TEFL course. A good friend encouraged me to try my luck again abroad and join her teach English to her eager students.
I was hesitant at first because all the sad feelings I had experienced came back to me. I thought for a second and realized that maybe it is the reason why I decided to study again. It was a tough decision for I know I will be leaving my family once again. I came to China to apply what I learned. I thought I was ready to teach children until I saw them and feel the fear of these kids to me as a foreign person. But I never gave up! As a mother, it came naturally to me to be interactive with them. I used our creative play time to get along with my kids and appreciated every single thing they made. As time went by, through hard work from our Chinese teachers and me, the children started to appreciate English and showed interest in learning more. It is a teacher’s instinct to make sure no one in the class misses any part of the day. I am not only a teacher to my students but I am also a student because I learn more from them on how to become a better teacher to such lovely kids. I also personally would like to thank my prior supervisor for helping me grow as a teacher, teaching me different teaching styles and made me appreciate my work. Seeing my kids improve their oral communication from zero to the level they have now makes me proud of every single person I have in my class. Every day as I enter my classroom, these lovely kids remind me of being a good teacher.
To be a kindergarten teacher you must possess the high qualities to be called a good one. It is indeed a difficult job but once you get through it, there is nothing more important than making you feel as a real kindergarten teacher. I once said I am far away from my family but I found love through my students, people I work with and the working environment I get from my employer. I received a treatment from my school that made me decide to stay longer with them. I brought my son with me to introduce the diverse Chinese culture and to let him experience the wonder of life in a different country. It has been a pleasure working in Jining Confucius International School especially if every morning you know your students are waiting for you to complete the day. I want to share a simple quote to everyone before you end reading my profile, “Do not dwell in the past, and don’t dream of the future but concentrate the mind on the present moment”. Enjoy the beauty of Life. Thank you.
